Riyad Mansour, the permanent observer of Palestine at the United Nations, tearfully read the message of the doctor from the Gaza Strip, who was killed during an Israeli airstrike.
Dr. Mahmoud Abu Nujaila, who worked at Al-Awda Hospital, wrote:
"Those who stay to the end will tell the story, remember us."
This message was found on the board of the hospital where he worked until his death in November 2023.
"These words testify to the courage and dedication of the doctors who worked in inhumane conditions," Mansour said during the emergency session of the UN Security Council. "The loss of Dr. Nujeila is a tragedy not only for Gaza, but for the whole world." he noted.
