Tehran confirms that Baku has sent a note of protest

Official Tehran has confirmed the information of Azerbaijani media. Yesterday, the charge d'affaires of Iranian affairs, Seyed Jafari Aghaye Maryan, was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in Baku, and an official note of protest was presented to him, reports RBK.

Let's remind that the reason was the insulting statements against Azerbaijan and the President of that country, Ilham Aliyev, which were made on December 29, 2024 in Ardabil at the event with the participation of Ayatollah Seyed Hasan Ameli, the representative of the Supreme Leader of Iran. The event was broadcast on one of Iran's TV channels.

"The Azerbaijani side expressed a strong protest to Iran in connection with this incident, and also expressed displeasure regarding the recent inflaming of anti-Azerbaijani sentiments among the population of Iran," the message says.

Baku also expressed displeasure that "anti-Azerbaijani sentiments have flared up among the residents of Iran recently."

The news was confirmed in Iran. "The complaint of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan was related to thoughtless and inappropriate statements during a ceremony held in one of our cities. Such statements have nothing in common with the official position of the Iranian government," said Mojtaba Demirchilu, assistant to the Iranian foreign minister and head of the ministry's Eurasian department.
