Asad Hassan al-Shibani, the foreign minister of the Syrian transitional government, announced that he will visit Saudi Arabia early next year for his first official visit abroad.
"It is an honor for me to represent my country during this first official visit," the Middle Eastern media quoted the minister as saying.
He noted that Damascus strives to "build strategic relations with the brothers of the Saudi kingdom in all fields".
The minister added that his visit is planned for the first week of the new year.
On December 21, Al-Shibani assumed the position of the head of the Foreign Ministry within the interim government.
On December 8, the armed opposition in Syria announced that it had captured Damascus and was forming a transitional government.
