South Korea's Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok will assume his duties as Acting President on December 27. As we learn from "RIA Novosti" agency, the country's Ministry of Finance reported about it after the National Assembly controlled by the opposition accepted the recommendation on the impeachment of acting president Han Dok Su.
As reported in the ministry, Choi San Mok first plans to meet with Han Dok Su, after which he will have a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and give instructions to the ministers.
The new acting president will also address the public in a written message and convene the National Security Council. Han Deok-soo is considered temporarily removed from his duties. Now the Constitutional Court will examine the Prime Minister's impeachment case and must make a decision on its legality within 180 days after accepting it.
Earlier, the Republic of Korea's parliament voted to impeach acting president Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, who took office two weeks ago when the country's president, Yun Seok-yeol, was impeached for a failed attempt to impose martial law.
