Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and spokesman for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied reports that Doha offered Tehran $12 billion to sign an agreement to resolve the conflict with Washington.
"Reports claiming that the state of Qatar offered Iran $12 billion to sign an agreement are untrue. They are being disseminated by parties seeking to derail the US-Iran agreement and undermine diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen stability in the region," he wrote in X.
Earlier, the London-based "Iran International" TV channel, citing a source, claimed that Iran demanded the immediate unfreezing of its $12 billion assets held in Qatar as a precondition for continuing negotiations with the United States. According to the source, this amount will be only the first tranche of the gradual easing of sanctions.
These demands were later expanded on social media, claiming that Qatar was ready to pay Tehran from its own funds.
