Algeria has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, the country's foreign ministry said.
"Algeria has decided to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates after exhausting all possibilities to maintain bilateral ties," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry did not elaborate on the reasons for the severance. The UAE has not yet commented on Algeria's decision.
Relations between the two countries have been tense for months. In February 2026, Algeria began the process of canceling an air services agreement with the UAE, also without disclosing the reasons.
As early as October 2025, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that his country had good relations with all Gulf states except one. He accused the country, without naming it, of interfering in Algeria's internal affairs and attempting to destabilize the situation. Reuters wrote that he could have been referring to the UAE.
