The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has caused energy and fertilizer prices to skyrocket, so the Strait should be fully reopened without restrictions. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced this at a press conference held in Nairobi.
"We are watching the sharp increase in prices due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and we believe that it is necessary to open it fully and without restrictions. We have called on both parties to do so. This is the only way to bring energy and fertilizer prices back to pre-war levels, and this is vital for countries like Kenya," Guterres said.
According to the Secretary General of the United Nations, several countries are already facing the threat of a food crisis due to the lack of fertilizers.
"Now is the sowing season, and without fertilizer, one can imagine that next year we run the risk of facing a serious food security problem. This is the moment when the unrestricted opening of the Strait of Hormuz is important in the interests of the entire international community," he emphasized.
"It does not make sense for a conflict between several countries to have such an impact that it will disrupt the world economy," Guterres added.
