The neurologist noted how sleeping in front of the TV affects the development of stroke

Neurologist Tatyana Khrebtova explained how sleeping in front of the TV affects the development of stroke and other cardiovascular problems.

“The TV screen produces flickering light and constant changes in brightness. The brain reacts more strongly to these changes than to a steady, dim light source. The sound from the TV causes micro-awakening. People do not remember them, but the continuity of sleep is disrupted. The brain does not turn off completely and continues to partially process important signals," Khrebtova told Lenta.ru.

The doctor noted that regular poor sleep leads to increased blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as the development of hidden inflammation in the body. All this increases the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular problems.

According to the specialist, people with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, lipid metabolism disorders, sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation and smokers should be especially careful.
