- The Netherlands sent the landing ship "Military Lady Johan de Wit" to Norway to participate in NATO's "Cold Response" exercise in the Arctic region, NU.nl reports. According to the portal, the ship left Den Helder port on the morning of February 16.
The portal explains that the exercises are part of the alliance's new "Arctic Guardian" mission. About 25,000 servicemen from 14 countries will participate. The exercise starts on March 9 and will last for 11 days. The "Johan de Wit" ship can serve as a landing vehicle and a multi-purpose base, including the location of helicopters, equipment and medical personnel.
On February 9, Chief of the General Staff of the Netherlands Armed Forces Onno Eichelsheim announced that NATO is ready to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic region. According to him, the alliance is discussing expanding the scale of military exercises in the Arctic, as well as starting a mission to ensure the security of Greenland.
