Italy will resume funding for the UN agency helping Palestinian refugees

Italy will resume funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the amount of 35 million euros, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said, Reuters reported. Tajani made this commitment during a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in Rome.

"Italy has decided to resume funding specific projects aimed at providing aid to Palestinian refugees, but only after a thorough check to ensure that not a single cent goes to support terrorism," Tajani said.
The Italian minister informed that 5 million euros will be allocated to the agency's projects, and the rest will be directed to the "Eat for Gaza" initiative.
Italy was one of many countries to cut funding to the refugee agency after Israel accused it of involvement in the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. The agency has 13,000 staff in Gaza, who manage the enclave's schools, primary health care clinics and other social services, as well as distribute humanitarian aid.
