Axios learned about increased US pressure on Israel over the Gaza issue

The administration of American President Joe Biden is increasing pressure on the Israeli government, counting on fulfilling US demands to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This was reported by the Axios portal with reference to American and Israeli officials.

According to their information, in recent days State Department representatives have had difficult meetings and telephone conversations with Israeli colleagues. US officials have demanded that Israel take steps to improve dire humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.

The portal also notes that representatives of the State Department protested over the Israeli airstrike, which destroyed a residential building in northern Gaza and killed dozens of Palestinians, including children. They also raised the issue that no aid was coming to the Jabaliya refugee camp and expressed concern about a new Israeli law that would sharply limit the work of the UN agency to help Palestine refugees in the Near East and organize works in Gaza.

Earlier, State Department press officer Matthew Miller confirmed that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sent a letter to their Israeli counterparts demanding that they “take concrete action within 30 days” to improve the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave. The letter, the text of which was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Axios portal journalist Barak Ravid, notes that failure to comply with US demands could lead to consequences in the matter of providing military assistance to Israel. According to the portal, American and Israeli officials said that the Israeli Minister of Strategic Planning Ron Dermer was tasked with preparing a response to Blinken and Austin's letter.

However, they believe that it will not be finalized and will not be sent until after the US elections. And if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins, the response to the letter's demands will likely be no, a US official told Axios.
