Fires in Australia have destroyed more than 300,000 hectares of forest

In the Australian state of Victoria, more than 300,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed by heat waves, and the fires may continue for several more weeks, the Guardian reported.

It was reported earlier that one person has already died and hundreds of people have been left homeless due to wildfires in the Australian state of Victoria. The Australian federal government and the state government of Victoria have jointly allocated 19.5 million Australian dollars (about 13 million US dollars) in financial aid to help the victims.

"Bushfires across Victoria have destroyed at least 119 structures and burned more than 300,000 hectares of forest, as the state continues to battle blazes that could rage for weeks," the Guardian writes.

According to the Victoria State Fire Control Center, as of Saturday afternoon, there were 67 unextinguished fires in the state, 10 of which continued to spread uncontrollably.
