On August 22, a working discussion on amendments and additions to the Law “On Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia” was held under the leadership of Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports this. The discussion was attended by Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, Acting Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service Nelly Davtyan, and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The agenda included issues related to the more effective organization of citizenship granting processes, improving existing legal regulations, and resolving existing problems in the field.
Arpine Sargsyan emphasized that it is necessary to reassess the institution of citizenship, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a stable legal connection between the person receiving citizenship and the Republic of Armenia. “We are reevaluating the procedures for granting and terminating citizenship and basing their logic on a new approach to state-citizen relations.
All the solutions we have developed should be based on the understanding that we need to ensure a new quality in terms of state-citizen relations,” the Minister of Internal Affairs emphasized. Proposals were presented to review and improve the processes of obtaining, restoring and related to RA citizenship.
The possibilities of improving legal requirements and existing mechanisms were discussed, as well as solutions aimed at regulating the problems that have arisen in the field, taking into account the best international practices in order to bring them into line with the legal and practical peculiarities of the Republic of Armenia. The Minister of Internal Affairs instructed to finalize the package based on the results of the discussion and submit it for public discussion.
