Russia considers the statements of the Metsamor nuclear power plant as a threat to the security of the region as an attempt to create a split in the relations between Armenia and Russia. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
According to her, such statements also contribute to the promotion of "really destructive" Western projects and technologies for the region, which, according to the Russian side, are significantly inferior to Russian ones in terms of security. Zakharova emphasized that the reliability of the Metsamor nuclear power plant is also confirmed by the IAEA assessments.
To remind, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, previously stated that in case of possible closure of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, Azerbaijan will provide alternative energy sources to Armenia.
