Kalas: EU countries have not yet come to a compromise on the confiscation of Russian assets

EU countries have yet to reach a compromise on the seizure of Russian assets under the so-called compensation loan scheme, but they expect to make progress at a summit on October 23-24. This was announced by EU Foreign Minister Kaya Callas upon her arrival at the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

"We offered a 'compensation loan'." We have made progress, but we are not there yet. I hope there will be more progress at the summit," Kallas said.

He acknowledged the existence of serious differences on the issue, stressing that this "requires a compromise" and that the European Commission is now working on "solidarity measures" for Belgium to share financial risks among EU countries.

On September 10, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Commission does not intend to confiscate the frozen Russian assets in the West, but will use them to provide loans to Ukraine.
