The body of a 40-year-old Russian citizen was discovered by passers-by in the early hours of August 28 in a park near the Baratashvili monument in central Tbilisi. The murder occurred after an argument in a supermarket.
According to investigators, during the argument, the accused repeatedly struck his opponent with a sharp weapon and a blunt object, then fled. The victim died at the scene from his injuries.
According to Georgian News, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that the detainee was a foreigner, but did not disclose his citizenship. Media reports indicate that he is an Armenian citizen, about 60 years old. Police identified and arrested the suspect immediately after the crime. The murder weapon was seized as evidence.
