Due to the fourteen years of conflict in Syria, decades will be required to make economic, social and developmental progress, this is stated in the UNDP Report. According to the document, nine of the 10 Syrians live in poverty today, and every fourth is inactive.
The report warns that the current growth rate will not restore GDP's pre-conflict level by 2080 (or in the next 55 years).
In 2010, Syrian GDP was $ 62 billion, but reduced more than half. The estimated loss of GDP lost in 2011-2024 is about $ 800 billion. Over the past five years, the average GDP growth was 1.3 percent a year.
