The decision of King Frederik X of Denmark to change the coat of arms was influenced by the words of the newly elected US President Donald Trump. This is reported by the British newspaper The Guardian. According to the publication, the change of coat of arms took place after Trump announced his readiness to acquire the island of Greenland. On January 3, it was reported that the royal coat of arms of Denmark was updated, three crowns were removed, which has caused disputes with Sweden since the Kalmar Union (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) in the 14th century.
Denmark's King Frederik X has ordered an update of the country's coat of arms in connection with his accession to the throne in January 2024. The new design also enlarges the coats of arms of Greenland and the Faroe Islands to occupy the second and third fields, while the symbols of Denmark and South Jutland are placed in the first and fourth fields.
Previously, the image of the third field combined three crowns with the coats of arms of Faroe Islands and Greenland. The three crowns have long been a point of contention with Sweden, as their depiction has been interpreted as a claim to the Swedish throne.
