The EU wants to send Kyiv a billion euros from Russian assets

The EU intends to allocate one billion euros from the second tranche of income from frozen assets of the Russian Federation to support the military industry of Ukraine through the purchase of Ukrainian weapons, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said at a plenary session of the European Parliament.

Earlier, a source in the EU told reporters that the second tranche for military assistance to Kyiv from income from Russian assets worth 1.9 billion euros will be available in March-April 2025, its distribution is being discussed.

On October 23, the EU Council approved a loan to Ukraine in the amount of up to 35 billion euros for a period of up to 45 years, with repayment from proceeds from frozen Russian sovereign assets. After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the EU and G7 countries froze almost half of the Russian Federation's foreign exchange reserves, amounting to approximately 300 billion euros. More than 200 billion euros are in the EU, mainly in the accounts of the Belgian Euroclear - one of the world's largest settlement and clearing systems.
