The UN General Assembly Committee adopted a Russian resolution on the fight against neo-Nazism


The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly voted for the resolution introduced by Russia “Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.” The correspondent reports thisTASS.

Document116 countries supported, 11 abstained. 54 states spoke out against, including Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Georgia, Italy, Canada, Lithuania, Poland, USA, Ukraine, France, Finland, Czech Republic, Estonia, and Japan.

The co-authors of the project were Algeria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, China, North Korea, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mali, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Serbia, Syria, Sudan, Tajikistan, Togo, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia, South Africa and other countries. The document, which is traditionally submitted by the Russian Federation and adopted since 2005, consists of 74 points.

It contains provisions strongly condemning incidents related to the glorification and propaganda of Nazism, welcoming efforts to preserve historical truth, recommending measures to prevent the denial of crimes against humanity, and revising the history and outcome of the Second World War. The draft resolution also strongly condemns "the use in the educational process of educational materials and rhetoric that promote racism, discrimination, hatred and violence on the basis of ethnic origin, nationality, religion or belief."
