Khachatur Galstyan, the prosecutor in the case against the Catholicos of All Armenians and six bishops, has resigned. Channel 5 reports this.
According to the channel, Galstyan initially did not want to take on the case, realizing the potential reputational risks. However, he was convinced that the case had no prospects, would be shortened at the preliminary investigation stage, and there would be no need to defend the charges in court.
According to the source, the course of the case has changed, and Galstyan was given a choice: resign or present the charges in court. He chose the resignation option.
According to Channel 5, Deputy Prosecutor General Aram Aramyan has been appointed as the public prosecutor in the case.
The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed Galstyan’s resignation, but assured that it has nothing to do with the aforementioned criminal case.
