It is necessary to discuss the possibility of a legislative ban on anonymous accounts on social networks. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 24, during the discussion of the Government's five-year program at the National Assembly session.
The initiative was voiced in response to a question from Harutyun Harutyunyan, a deputy from the opposition "Strong Armenia" faction.
Pashinyan, in turn, suggested that the opposition factions jointly create a working group with the authorities and discuss a mechanism for mandatory identification of social network users.
"I suggest that the two opposition factions discuss the possibility of creating a working group. If this is possible, let's adopt a law according to which citizens of the Republic of Armenia will be able to have an account on a social network only after passing the appropriate identification process," the Prime Minister said.
According to him, if a political consensus is reached, Armenia may begin to demand from social platforms to close the accounts of users who have not passed passport identification.
"Let's form a consensus and announce to social networks:
"Fakers are prohibited in our country. So start closing the accounts of all those who are not identified by passport. If you agree, we will adopt such a bill. Then we will see who is interested in fakes and who is not," the Head of Government noted.
