Today, the court issued a guilty verdict against Edgar Ghazaryan, deputy of the "Strong Armenia" faction of the National Assembly. In a conversation with journalists, Ghazaryan admitted that the decision was unexpected for him.
"I was expecting only an excuse. I am very sorry for what I heard in court today. Until now, the legal positions and arguments we presented brought us to the logical conclusion that the only decision that had to be made was the verdict of acquittal," said Ghazaryan.
He emphasized that what happened completely fits into the general context of the political persecutions that have been applied to various political figures, military personnel, and clergy. Therefore, especially politicians could not avoid it.
The deputy mentioned that they do not agree with this decision and will appeal.
"We will fight until the end. I don't give up easily. I think that these few days of parliamentary activity may have influenced the decision at the last moment. The mood that I feel in the National Assembly, especially towards me from the ruling faction, I think that maybe they have decided to use this occasion, this excuse to silence me in this way, because in the National Assembly, they do not succeed in doing this in practice," added Ghazaryan.
