On August 1, Google disabled the Nano Banana 2 artificial intelligence feature launched on July 30 in Google Earth. The press service of the company said that the decision was made because users were creating images that violated the rules.
The technology allowed maps to be modified in seconds based on satellite data in 3D format to "visualize history" or develop projects. However, users have started to generate fake satellite photos with the risk of serious global consequences.
In particular, fake shots of an explosion in Paris, a bomb funnel in Russia, a plane crashing into a New York skyscraper, the Pyramid of Giza going underground, and aircraft carriers burning in the sea were created. Google said that the function has been disabled in order to implement more stringent protection mechanisms.
