The journalist persecuted in Russia was arrested in Armenia

Armenian border guards arrested the journalist Ilya Danilov, who was traveling from Georgia to Armenia, and took him to the border police department.

Earlier, the journalist worked in Navalny's headquarters, which is why two criminal cases were initiated against him in Russia, on charges of "falsifications about the army" and "participation in an extremist organization", and he was arrested in absentia.

Lawyer Dmitri Zakhvatov said in a conversation with portmedia that Armenia will not extradite the journalist persecuted for political reasons to Russia. Extradition is possible in the event that there is also an article in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia corresponding to the charges brought against the Russian citizen in the homeland. Nevertheless, the official arrest of the wanted activist should be carried out in any case.

"Armenia has international obligations under the Chisinau Convention, which provide for assistance in civil, family and criminal cases. It is obvious that there is no provision in Armenian legislation that would allow prosecuting an opposition movement simply for being an opposition movement. And therefore, of course, the extradition request will be rejected. there is no doubt about it", the lawyer noted.

At the same time, according to the human rights defender, Ilya Danilov can remain detained until Monday, because the prosecutor will not make a decision to refuse extradition on weekends.
