Moroccan security forces used tear gas to disperse a crowd of young people trying to enter the autonomous Spanish city of Melilla on the Mediterranean coast of Africa, the Hespress news portal reports.
According to his sources, dozens of young Moroccans, mostly minors, tried to attack the Beni Ansar border crossing on the way to Melilla.
They threw stones at the security forces and clashed with them. The police had to use tear gas to "restore calm and control the situation".
According to Hespress, local authorities have ordered an increased police presence at the Beni Ansar checkpoint to "prevent further escalation or disruption of public order". The situation at the border crossing remains tense and security forces are on high alert.
