The sale of Armenian brandy in Russia has sharply decreased

In the first half of 2026, retail sales of Armenian brandy and still wine in Russia decreased by 11-12% compared to the same period last year. "Коммерсант" informs about this, referring to the data of market participants.

Sales of Armenian cognac decreased by 12.2%, making 1.37 million deciliters. Armenia's share in the Russian cognac market decreased by 1.7 percentage points within a year and reached 20%.

Sales of Armenian still wine decreased by 11.8% to 239.65 thousand deciliters. Only in June, the annual decline was 18.9%. The share of Armenian products in the total sales of still wine in Russia does not exceed 1%.

Sales of Armenian alcohol products decreased faster than the Russian market as a whole. During the reporting period, the total sales of brandy in Russia decreased by 4.6%, and the sales of still wine decreased by 3.7%.

Market participants associate the decline with several factors. In May, Rospotrebnadzor stopped the sale of some products of three Armenian producers: "Vedi-Alco", Abovyan cognac factory and "Shahnazaryan" wine-cognac house.

In addition, a number of Russian importers and distributors, fearing new restrictions, have begun to reduce purchases of Armenian products. The increase in prices also affected the sales. since January, the minimum retail price of cognac and whiskey made from raw materials aged at least three years has increased by 16%, reaching 755 rubles.

According to the interlocutors of "Коммерсант", due to the increase in prices, part of the buyers switch from mass Armenian cognac to more recognized brands or other types of strong alcoholic beverages.
