China highly appreciates Pakistan's mediation role in settling the armed conflict between the US and Iran. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that China will support Islamabad's efforts in this direction. "China highly appreciates the important role played by Pakistan in signing the Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the US.
We will continue to fully support Pakistan in its mediation, promote the return of all parties to dialogue and negotiations, and promote a long-term cessation of hostilities," Wang Yi was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry website. On July 24, he met with his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, where the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held.
The Chinese Foreign Minister stressed that Beijing is ready to strengthen cooperation with Islamabad in multilateral formats such as the SCO and the United Nations, and jointly protect the interests of both countries and the legitimate rights and interests of countries in the Global South. He noted that China-Pakistan relations "are always at the forefront of their time".
