Amid the latest wave of tensions between Iran and the United States, cargo ships have begun transiting the Strait of Hormuz with their transponders turned off, refusing to broadcast their positions. This was reported by Bloomberg, referring to the data of Kpler analytical company.
According to analysts, no ships passed through the strait on July 12. However, six merchant ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz without transponders disabled. Cargo ship owners have resorted to this behavior amid a new wave of tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as uncertainty over who controls the routes and ensures their safety. The last time ships openly passed through the US-designated southern corridor through the Strait of Hormuz was last Wednesday.
On Saturday, several ships passed through the northern route designated by Iran.
