During a several-hour roundup in the Moscow metro, Interior Ministry officers detained about 140 foreign citizens who were in Russia in violation of migration legislation. Administrative protocols have been drawn up against all those detained, after which they are scheduled to be deported from the country, Kommersant reported, citing the department's migration service.
During the operation, law enforcement officers used a special system designed to identify violators of migration legislation. The Interior Ministry noted that similar technologies are already being used in the metro, airports, river ports, railway stations and other facilities.
"The experiment conducted in the Moscow metro area has shown its effectiveness," the migration service said in a statement.
The department added that such rounds will be held on a regular basis, including in other regions of Russia.
