An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred near Tokyo, in the northeast of Chiba Prefecture.
No tsunami threat was declared, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported. According to the correspondent of RIA Novosti, weak, short-lasting tremors were also felt in Tokyo. JMA placed the epicenter of the earthquake, the magnitude of which was 5.8, at a depth of 50 kilometers.
The maximum magnitude of the shock on the seven-point scale used in Japan was 4.0. There are no reports of casualties or damage.
