Iran is investigating the involvement of foreign intelligence agencies in the country's protests

Iran's uprising was an operation supported by foreign intelligence and Tehran is investigating the extent to which foreign special services were involved, a senior Iranian official told reporters in New York.

“This was an intelligence operation supported from abroad.

Dozens of people who had direct contact with Mossad (Israel's intelligence service) were arrested. We are starting an investigation to find out the extent of the involvement of other foreign intelligence services," he said.

The unrest in Iran began with street protests on December 29, following a sharp devaluation of the rial, and has spread to most major cities.
