German troops stationed in Greenland received an unexpected order to return home, reports Das Bild.
The media published a photo of 15 soldiers and officers of the Bundeswehr, led by Rear Admiral Stefan Pauli, at Nuuk Airport in Greenland. The troops were supposed to stay on the island longer than planned, but in the morning, without explanation, they "secretly" and "with lightning speed" left the island.
"It remains unclear whether Germany is withdrawing its troops because of the punitive tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump...against opponents of its aggressive policy towards Greenland, or if there are other reasons," the article states.
