Israel's Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli made a harsh statement on social media, accusing Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan of supporting Islamist forces and posing a "threat" to the security of the West.
Çikli, publishing a joint photo of Fidan and the late leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, claimed that the Turkish Foreign Minister had formed Ankara's political line "close to Islamic movements" for years. According to him, Fidan "formed the infrastructure of jihadist groups" in Syria, supported the movement of militants from different regions and provided protection to the leadership of "Hamas" in Turkey. Çikli said that the members of "Hamas" who move freely in Turkey may be involved in "planning possible terrorist activities in Europe".
He also claimed that under Fidan's leadership, Turkey has switched to a "more closed and control-based" governance model, with a priority of pursuing opposition parties abroad.
