Politico. The European Commission can offer EU countries a loan for Kyiv

The European Commission (EC) may propose that EU countries take out a joint loan of tens of billions of euros to help Ukraine if the community cannot agree on a so-called "compensation loan" for Kiev using Russian sovereign assets frozen in Europe.

This was reported by the European publication Politico, referring to European diplomats.
According to them, it is expected that the European Commission will present a document in the coming weeks, which will include a new proposal for the confiscation of Russian assets, as well as the idea of joint assumption of debt obligations by EU countries.

The document may also outline a third option, to refuse further financial support to Ukraine, but diplomats noted that only Hungary could agree to this.
Politico's sources emphasized that the prospect of increasing the debt will not please most of the EU countries, which still consider the "compensation loan" as the best financing mechanism for Kiev.

It is noted that the European Commission may offer this option in order to "scare" the countries of the community and encourage them to take action.
