"Zhoghovurd" daily reported that the Armenian dairy market has faced a worrying trend in recent months. A large amount of cream is imported from Iran, the origin and quality of which are not clearly controlled. Imported raw materials are used for the production of various dairy products: butter, sour cream, ice cream and cottage cheese, labeled "local production".
The State Revenue Committee informed "Zhoghovurd" that in 2024 from January 1 to 2025 On August 1, around 1,472 tons of cream were imported into Armenia, with a total value of 1.5 billion drams. Only in 2025. in the first 7 months, 823.5 tons were imported, the value of which exceeded 1.68 billion drams.
Among the importing companies are: "Progress SS", "MILLCAT", "Daughter Marianna", "Stepprogress", "Tamara", "Milk Up Plus", "Khak", "AA TRANSIT" LLCs. Experts' concern, the president of "Right to Health" NGO, Anush Poghosyan, addressed the issue, noting that the Ministry of Health is obliged to respond, because the issue is not only economic, but also health-related.
According to him, imported cream without proper laboratory control can cause a number of dangers: • microbial: food poisoning, intestinal infections, • chemical: allergic reactions, liver and kidney damage, • as well as loss of nutritional value, because frozen or processed raw materials lose proteins and vitamins.
Poghosyan reminds that the regulatory bodies in Russia have already restricted the circulation of Iranian dairy products, but no such steps have been taken in Armenia yet.
