The German chancellor rejected Zelensky's request for an invitation to NATO

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to immediately invite Kiev to NATO. Scholz spoke about it in an interview with ZDF TV channel.

Scholz reminded that the NATO countries "described the prospects" for Ukraine, the German Deutsche Welle newspaper reported.

"I think there is no need for a new decision at the moment," Sholtz said. According to the chancellor, it is important to clarify that "a warring country cannot become a member of NATO".

"Everyone knows this, there are no disagreements on this issue," he added.

"At the moment, Ukraine is not expected to be invited to join NATO, because in the case of the alliance, the invitation is usually very quickly connected with the membership," Scholz added.
