Revealed the hidden cause of fatigue after waking up

Researchers have found that the dehydration can make it difficult to fall asleep and increase the feeling of fatigue after waking up. The results of the research were published in the Journal of SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine (CCM).

18 men students took part in the experiment. For four days, researchers have followed their level of hydration and sleep quality in the laboratory. The first day of the output level of the water balance was fixed. On the second day, the participants came to a laboratory in a good hydraulic condition, after drinking 500 ml of water last night. After that, they were instructed not to drink water until the next visit, creating light dehydration for the third day. On the fourth day, the tests returned to their usual regime.

To evaluate the level of hydration, scientists have used three indicators: urine color, urine relative density (how low, so good hydration) and body mass change. At the same time, the participants have completed the sleep quality questionnaires, how long it took to sleep as often as they woke up at night and how fresh they felt in their morning.

Data analysis has shown. In dehydration, the participants slept on average for an average of one hour, but the sleeping took longer, and they felt more tired in the morning. This shows that water deficiency has a negative effect not only for physical condition, but also on sleep quality.

Despite the fact that the research was initially implemented in the context of sports medicine, scientists say the results are important for the general public. According to the authors, the light dehydration is often a face in everyday life, especially in hot weather or low-use of liquid.

Researchers plan to continue working to study how the lack of water affects the work of the immune system. Their future studies will also be pregnant women and children who can be especially sensitive to changes in water balance.
