Experts noted exercises preventing the development of Demencies

Swiss scientists have shown that special fitness games that combine physical activity and cognitive tasks can slow down the development of Demence in the early stages. The work was published in "Alzheimer" magazine.

On average, about 40 people aged 73 took part in attempts. Throughout 12 weeks, they trained five times a week at home for 25 minutes, performing exercises on a special panel installed on the screen. Games required simultaneous movement and solving problems on memory, attention and spatial perception. After training, the participants performed respiratory exercises to promote the wandering nerve and activate the additional brain cognitive centers.

The results were impressive. The participants showed a noticeable improvement of memory and cognitive functions, which is reflected in everyday life. It was easier for them to overcome purchases, communication and stressful situations. In the control group, where people continued traditional therapy, on the contrary, the condition has deteriorated, which corresponds to the typical course of the disease.

It was especially important that the amendments were also observed at the brain level. Magnetic resonance imagination showed the increase in the volume of Hippocampus and Talamus, sections responsible for memory, as well as improving prerequisite skull venomish and pre-trial crust. In the control group, on the contrary, the volume of these structures decreased. Scientists say that the reduction of hypokamp is one of the early signs of Demension, so its volume growth is convincing proof of brain plasticity after a three-month training.

"Our results inspire confidence in the future," said Professor Eling de Bruin. "Nevertheless, personalized game trainings can not only slow down, but also prevent the development of Demence, more and longer studies are needed."
