The Group of Seven plans to keep Russian assets frozen after the end of the conflict in Ukraine until compensation is paid to Kyiv for the damage caused, Nikkei reports, citing senior sources in the European Union.
It is expected that this month the G7 will issue a special statement on this matter. “We confirm that Russian sovereign assets under our jurisdiction will remain frozen until Russia completes its aggression and pays for the damage caused Ukraine,” says a draft document prepared by Italy, which chairs the group this year. The G7, in particular, guarantees a loan of $50 billion to Kyiv. Earlier, Britain announced that it would provide Ukraine with £2.26 billion as part of a G7 loan with repayment from revenues from frozen assets of Russia.
