The unexpected danger of heat for the brain has been revealed

The double effect of high temperatures has a negative impact on children's ability to study, especially in mathematics. This conclusion was reached by RMIT and the University of New South Wales. The results of the study were published in Plos Climate magazine.

Scientific analysis includes almost 14.5 million schools from 61 countries. The analysis has shown that children living in a hot climate and learn are worse, abstract thinking and concentration. Such skills are actively used in math classes. At the same time, the ability to read and clearer tasks has suffered less.

The most vulnerable to the heat were the students of low-income families. They often attended schools where there was no air conditioner and did not have additional training to strengthen their knowledge. As a result, this group were students who showed the largest decline in cognitive capacity.

According to scientists, this can lead to an increase in educational among young people in the long run. The researchers also noted that studying inappropriate conditions can slow down the intellectual development of all generations and increase social inequality.

The authors of the study call for climate factors to take into account the educational policy. Among possible solutions are the modernization of school cooling systems and reviewing the approaches to organizing the educational process in the context of global warming.
