Zelensky said that Germany opposes inviting Ukraine to NATO

Germany remains skeptical about Kyiv's invitation to NATO, while the positions of Ukraine and the United States on this issue have become closer. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated this.

He added that he discussed the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO during his trips to Europe last week and this week, including at a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. “We talked a lot about the future of Ukraine in NATO. The German position is very important to me. I believe that today the Germans remain skeptic. We are closer to NATO and the United States than we have ever been,” Zelensky said at a press conference, which was broadcast on the Ukrainian telethon.
He added that Germany also still does not agree to transfer long-range weapons to Ukraine. “This is a painful issue for them,” he noted.

On October 16, Zelensky presented his plan to end the conflict in the Verkhovna Rada. One of his priorities is to immediately invite Ukraine to NATO. On October 18, Scholz, at a press conference with US President Joe Biden in Berlin, stated that the involvement of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Ukrainian conflict would lead to disaster, and such a development must be prevented.
