The doctor noted three ways to protect against cancer of head and neck

Leaving smoking and alcohol, as well as vaccination against a human papillomavirus (HPV), contribute to the reduction of the risk of developing malignant tumors in the head and neck. This was reported by the Oncologist of the Civil Cancer Center, Dr. Catherine Price. SciTechDaily quotes the words of the specialist.

According to the specialist, the head and neck cancer (especially the mouthful of the oral cavity) is one of the fastest growing and mostly oncological diseases. It is characterized by malignant tumors in the mouth, tongue, gums, lips, voices, throat and nasal cavities. However, brain cancer is not classified in this category.

The doctor explained that the head and neck cancer can be divided into two different groups, a human papillomavirus (HPV) and he had nothing to do with it. Tobacco and alcohol use increases non-HPV cancer development.

Cigarette smoke contains carcinogenic materials that cause DNA mutations, and alcohol in the body turns into an acetaldehyde, toxic substance that harms mobile structures. Both factors also strengthen inflammation and weaken the immune system, which contributes to the development of tumors.

Dr. Price advises not only to give up bad habits, but also pre-vaccinated against a person's papillomavirus. Some virus strains, in particular HPV-16, are introduced in cells, disrupting the growth and the activities of supervising genes. As a result, cells begin to be uncontrollably divided, which leads to the emergence of tumors.

You can be infected with HPV with any close contact with skin and mucous membranes. In most cases, HPV is transmitted sexually.
