The rough violations of human rights in penitentiaries continue, the minister would personally go

RA NA deputy Garnik Danielyan writes:

"On April 3, we received information that the Nubarashen penitentiary was tortured by lifers. According to him, the masked people threw the court on the floor and beat them cruel.

The relatives of the convicts Zhanna Aleksanyan were alarmed this. The RA Ombudsman and a quick response team were also informed.

RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan commented on this as an event against illegal actions. The latter said that the convicts had burned mattresses, while those who were deprived of liberty claimed that they were not burned by cells, but only one towel.

According to the Ombudsman, lifers conveyed information in private conversations about disproportionate physical strength, damage to the cells of the cells and swearing against them.

Representatives of the Defender's Office also registered the bodily injuries of those deprived of liberty.

It turns out that instead of taking appropriate actions, the relevant authorities cover what happened, not being punished by those who have exceeded their rights.

The Minister of Justice was obliged to personally go to the penitentiary to get acquainted with the situation on the spot.

I regularly visit penitentiaries with my colleagues, talks to those deprived of liberty.

For months, I urge the relevant bodies to take steps to solve the problems I have made. Instead, I am threatened by the Criminal Code.

Unfortunately, despite our many publications and records, the rough violations of human rights continue in penitentiaries.

The problems of those deprived of liberty are always under my magnifying glass. The convicts should not be treated with such treatment. They are part of our society. "
