US President Joe Biden announced on Sunday during a tour of the hurricane-ravaged state of Florida that more than $600 million will be given to states affected by Hurricanes Helen and Milton, which also devastated Georgia and North Carolina, NBC reports. News.

During a speech in St. Pete Beach, Biden said about $100 million of the money would go toward improving Florida's power system. He noted that this is his second visit to the state in two weeks.

"Fortunately, the impact of the storm was not as catastrophic as we anticipated," Biden said. "But for some people, it was a disaster." All the people who not only lost their homes, but more importantly, the people who lost their lives, lost family members."

Florida officials confirmed that 17 people were killed last week when the Milton hit the coast near Tampa.

More than a million residents remain without power in the wake of Hurricane Helen.
