Found in connection between heart disease and brain changes

Scientists from Rotterdam's Erasmus University have found that early signs of heart problems may occur at the same time as a decline in brain. The results of the study were published in the Neurology magazine.

Scientists have concluded such a conclusion as a result of missing seven research in Europe and the United States. A total of 10,889 people aged 67 took part in them. The work was aimed at studying the ties between the early signs of heart disease (including systolic and diastolic dysfunction) and brain changes. MRT research was used to assess the volunteer's brain size.

The results showed that the systolic and diastolic dysfunction was interconnected with the decline in the volume of the brain. In the first case, the left ventricle of the heart effectively pushes the blood, and in the second case it does not weaken. It turned out that diastolic dysfunction is also linked to a decrease in the volume of hypokampus, which is important for memory regulation.

"Even light diastolic dysfunction can have a negative impact on the health of the brain. The screening of cognitive disorders of people with heart problems can help to reveal the problems related to the work of the brain and start the appropriate treatment, "said scientists.

Researchers stressed that more research is needed to better understand the connection between the heart and cognitive health, especially in the level of population level.
