The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the United States has signed an agreement to appoint a new Russian ambassador

The United States has signed an agreement with the director of the North Foreign Ministry of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Darchiyev to appoint a new Russian ambassador to Washington, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

"The American side has submitted an official note to Darchev to appoint a new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States (...), the statement said.

It is noted that the Russian side received a note during the talks between the Russian Federation and the United States Delegation to Istanbul on February 27. Darchi's departure is planned in the near future.

On October 6, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov ended his duties and returned to his homeland. He was leading the diplomatic mission since December 2016. On December 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the United States has approved a new Russian ambassador to Washington.

The meeting of the Russian and US delegations, which took place in Istanbul, was dedicated to the work of the embassies and lasted more than six hours. Representatives of the United States and Russia discussed measures to normalize diplomatic missions. Discussions between the parties, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, have been subject and practical.
