"Why should we continue to fight the transport fares?
On March 12, the city authorities of Yerevan decided to increase transport fare to 300 drams on March 12, without any substantiated calculation.
However, the wave of protest and the consistent and active struggle initiated by the "Mother Armenia" movement showed that this decision is not only unfair, but also doomed to failure.
However, the problem has not been completely solved, and if we want to achieve social justice, we must continue to fight until the fare decreases to 100 drams.
1. The decision does not have a justification
To date, the municipality has not yet presented clear digital calculations on why the fare should be 300 drams.
If they bring the reason for this amount to cover the transportation costs, the question arises, why not studying about more accessible options?
When government agencies do not work transparently, it means that decisions are made arbitrarily without taking into account the living standards and needs of citizens. This is already enough reason to require accountability and review.
2. The boycott showed that the decision fails as a result of the boycott of the citizens became clear that people were not going to pay 300 drams or use the proposed packages. This means that the intention of the government to force everyone to pay more does not come true.
When society is united, the government has to trace, as we have already witnessed certain changes.
But this is not the end. We must continue our struggle, we can force them to make real concessions and set 100 drams as a maximum tariff.
3. It is possible to make 100 drams fare
There are many cities where the transport system works with state subsidies, alternative income or optimal budget management. Armenia can apply the same methods without dropping citizens under a heavy financial burden.
For example, reduction of inefficient budget expenditures and their directing sphere of transport. Advertising revenue involvement in vehicles.
Tourist tax or alternative income includes transportation financing.
If this 2.5-point authorities really care about citizens, they should think about such solutions, not just raise the fare 3 times to close their own expenses.
4. This is a wider struggle than the fare price
If we give up on this issue, the parade of the same unfair decisions will continue tomorrow. This struggle is not only about fare, but also about whether our opinion is important in our own city.
If we do not fight now, any decision can be made without taking into account public opinion in the future.
We continue to fight.
1. We do not accept the robbery decisions - We continue to boycott and do not use expensive packages. The joint struggle gave the first small result, but there is still a lot to do. If we continue to be united and not demanded, we can force the urban government to reconsider the decision and set the fare within 100 drams.
This struggle shows that the voice of citizens has the power, and if we do not keep silent, the government cannot ignore us.
Let's continue the struggle for just fare and social justice. "
