We are in active dialogue with Turkey, with which the borders have been closed for more than 30 years, and we have common ideas that open borders and cooperation can benefit Armenia, Turkey and other countries in the region. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this on January 23 in Yerevan during a panel discussion on "Together for Peace and Democracy" with the participation of the heads of the parliaments of the Baltic and Northern European countries.
"An active, intensive, results-based dialogue is underway, but, unfortunately, there are still no serious, tangible results on the ground," he said.
The minister also announced that Armenia is interested in expanding ties with the Baltic and Northern European countries.
"The reasons are very simple. these are the countries where democratic values are strongest, where human rights are well protected and where the risks facing global democracy are understood.Furthermore, cooperation with these countries is the best example of regional partnership.
Our society has proven its commitment to democracy more than once. When Armenia tried to protect democracy, it was democracy that protected our country.
In 2021, after the 2020 war, taking into account the internal political crisis, external influence, as well as the attempted military coup, the Armenian authorities decided to hold elections, that is, the main tool of democracy was used. The authorities offered the people an agenda of peace and democracy, and the people chose this agenda," concluded Mirzoyan.
