Polish authorities are not going to open checkpoints on the border with Belarus, which were closed in previous years. The head of the Republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tomasz Siemoniak, told journalists about this at a press conference in Bialystok, which is broadcast by TVP Info.
"Nothing indicates that this will happen in the near future," the minister answered the journalist's question about whether the Polish authorities are going to open the checkpoint in Bobrovniki, which was closed in February 2023.
The reasons for this were the lack of progress on the release of journalist Andrei Pochobut, who is serving a sentence in Belarus, and Minsk's alleged reluctance to cooperate in the search for an illegal migrant who fatally wounded a Polish soldier at the border. At the end of May 2024.
The politician once again accused the Belarusian authorities of encouraging illegal migration to Poland without evidence.
There are six checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border. At the initiative of the Polish side, four are not functioning, and in the fifth, restrictions have been introduced for Belarusian trucks.
